Hikaru no Go129 / 157

4.3佐賀市文化会館

Post location: No. 29 zelda. Source: JC Hikaru no Go vol. 4 P.81-90. The venue of the professional game 'the 14th NEC Cup Go Tournament Round 1 Game 5' (co-hosted by the Nihon Ki-in) that Shindo Hikaru watched together with senior Tsutsui. The players were Kato Norihisa 9-dan (black) vs. Fujisawa Kikuo 9-dan (white), with Murase 9-dan giving the commentary and Yoshinaga 2-dan as the audience listener. Senior Tsutsui said to Hikaru: 'I never thought Shindo-kun would watch a professional game with me. I thought you'd say watching Go is boring.' Hikaru only stuck it out through the middle school Go tournament against Touya for Sai's sake, but soon he could not sit still and left his seat. Because of this, he learned about internet Go during the break and discovered sai, the strongest internet player. The exterior feature of this venue is its wide, shallow stepped seating, a layout uncommon in Tokyo. After searching images of the various NEC Cup Go Tournament venues, I found that Saga City Culture Hall best matches the manga's depiction. Judging from the hall's official website and online images, its interior, especially the 'white porcelain walls' on both sides of the stage and the left and right seating that rises one level above the first-floor center seats, closely resembles the manga scene. Notably, on May 22, 1999, Saga City Culture Hall hosted the '19th NEC Cup Go Tournament Round 1 Game 2 Saga Tournament', where the commentary listener at the time was Umezawa Yukari 2-dan (at the time). Model for the exterior of the NCC Cup Go Tournament venue. (vol. 4 P.81)
