After Hikaru quarrels with Sai, Hikaru takes Sai to a Go event to cheer him up; the real model of the venue appears in the manga. Sai defeats Meijin Gososo here, and Hikaru meets Kurata. In the manga, Hikaru says things like ‘There are so many people from the countryside’ and ‘It's a bit far, but I'm glad I came.’ Yet the model for this venue is actually in Nagoya, the hometown of the author Horita Yumi! However, although Hikaru is already a pro, he is still a junior high student and his pro career has just begun, so going from Tokyo to Nagoya on a weekend seems too far in both distance and cost. Perhaps the setting in the work is somewhere in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and the Nagoya building was only a visual reference. (Addendum, March 31, 2014) I went to Nagoya specifically to visit that friend. Although I happened to visit during the event's preparation period and could not take photos identical to those in the manga, by photographing the distinctive ceiling pipes I was able to confirm that this is the model for the manga's venue. Amateur Go Festival venue. (vol.12 P.139 etc.)
