EP 511:502024-10-29The venue of the amateur Go festival that Shindo Hikaru took Sai to after quarreling with him, to cheer Sai up. The original of this venue also appears in the manga. Sai defeated Gokisō Meijin here, and Hikaru also met Kurata. In the manga, Hikaru says things like "there are so many people from the countryside" and "it's a bit far, but I'm glad I came." Yet the original of this venue is in Nagoya, the hometown of author Horita Hiromi! However, although Hikaru had already become a professional, he was still a middle school student and his career had just begun, so traveling from Tokyo on a weekend to Nagoya seems too far in terms of both distance and cost. Perhaps the setting in the work is somewhere in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and the Nagoya building was used only as a visual reference. [Addendum] (March 31, 2014) I went to Nagoya specifically and visited that friend. Although it happened to be during preparations for the event and I could not take photos identical to the manga, by photographing the distinctive ceiling pipes I could confirm that this is the original of the manga's venue. Amateur Go festival venue. (Vol. 12 p.139, etc.)
