4.1 Adachi Ward Workers' Welfare Hall
4.1足立区勤労福祉会館 EP 3417:292024-10-29Venue of the "6th Fureai Go Festival" where Shindo Hikaru played a four-player game. Its interior and exterior both appear in the manga, for example the scene where a secretary of a Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly member says goodbye to the organizers after the event. Because the building was under renovation, a huge blue barrier was set up in front of the entrance, which was very disappointing. Although I confirmed the event was held in the first hall on the second floor, that hall was being used for another event at the time, so I could not take photos. While photographing the interior of the entrance, I greeted a male staff member and received permission. Through conversation with him, I learned that the Adachi Ward Labor Welfare Hall hosts a Go event every April organized by 椔石会. Researching it, I found the event is large, supported by Adachi Ward and the Nihon Ki-in Adachi branch, has continued for nearly 40 years, and even Umezawa (Yoshihara) Yukari, supervisor of "Hikaru no Go," has taken part. From this I infer that the origin of the "Fureai Go Festival" is the Go event of 椔石会. Also, the background of the scene where Shindo Hikaru and Isumi Koichi talk in the hall does not seem to be this place. That scene features a distinctive atrium, and I suspect there is a corresponding original building, but I have not yet found it. (Supplemented and corrected November 19, 2012) Venue of the "Fureai Go Festival" where Akira played four simultaneous games that all ended in jigo (Vol. 9 p.88). 1-34-7-102 Ayase, Adachi-ku, Tokyo.
