5.6 Gero Onsen Suimeikan
5.6下呂温泉 水明館 EP 605:122024-10-29In the anime, the Suimeikan in the manga was changed to Mandou-kan. The one-day-and-one-night Go training camp held by the Nihon Ki-in took place at a hot spring inn, where Sai spent the night before he disappeared. Sadly, after a game against the drunken Ogata, Sai left this world. From the diagram in the middle of page 36 of volume 15 of the manga, we can identify this inn as the "Suimeikan." The training camp was held in a meeting hall called "Chouyou-chou," and the scenery on pages 36 and 67 is likely photographed from a guest room window. [Supplementary notes] In October 2016, I finally had the chance to stay at the Suimeikan in Shimo-Lo Onsen, the venue of the Go training camp where Sai spent his last night. After prior research, I guess that the rooms of Ogata 9-dan and Mr. Ashihara were in the "Rinsen-kaku." When booking, I specifically asked for a room with an alcove on the right after entering the door. The Suimeikan houses many artworks, including works by nationally recognized masters, and has architecturally valuable facilities such as a noh stage and a tea room. Every day at 5 p.m., the inn holds a free guided tour of the building, led personally by the manager. I was lucky enough to join this tour, where I not only saw precious artworks but also got to enter the "Chouyou-chou," fulfilling my wish. [About the photos] Entrance of the Suimeikan: Because the bus was parked in a slightly different position than in the manga diagram, the composition of the building does not fully match. Hover the mouse over the image to see a photo whose composition is closer to the manga. Corridor of the Rinsen-kaku: On the left should be Ogata's room, but it is actually a restroom. To show the atmosphere of the corridor, I took this photo similar to the manga. Guest room of the Rinsen-kaku: The room I stayed in met my request, with an alcove on the right after entering. Although the layout and interior differ somewhat from the manga, I tried to shoot from similar angles. Go seminar venue. (Vol. 15 p.36) The view on p.36 is from a room in the Suimeikan. 1268 Kouda, Shimo-Lo City, Gifu Prefecture, Suimeikan details »(map link)
