JR Iwafune Station Waiting RoomJR岩舟駅 待合室19:48Episode 1: The station waiting room where Akari kept waiting for Takaki. The shot of Takaki spotting Akari after leaving the ticket gate. Iwafune Station became unstaffed in December 2003, so it was already unstaffed when the director scouted the location. Therefore, the station building interior in the film is said to be drawn based on pamphlets from the staffed era. (Unconfirmed information) The current station building is the form after a major renovation in 2006. In this renovation, the ticket window and office areas were removed. Although not visible in the photo, the ticket gate window area and the walls where ticket machines were once built in are all sealed off, and a freestanding ticket machine has been placed instead. The simple SUICA terminal installed at the ticket gate ruins everything... The electronic display board announcing train delays is installed above the ticket gate where the timetable was drawn in the film, and the timetable is placed beside the ticket machine. Also, the waiting room in the film is said to be modeled on the waiting room of Mitsuishi Station on the JR Tsugaru Line, as the director himself tweeted (http://twitter.com/shinkaimakoto/status/19749440728). (Reportedly uses photos taken during location scouting for 'Five Centimeters per Second'.)
