    In Volume 1 of the novel, "Mirai FISHING", the staircase where Adachi first held Shimamura's hand. "Adachi, walking beside me, took my hand. Caught off guard, I stopped and turned to look at her. Meeting her eyes, I saw she seemed to be watching my reaction, uneasy and glancing away." (However, the novel says "after walking a short distance from the station" and "I was absent-minded and nearly stepped into the road, and she grabbed my hand in a panic to stop me." There is no staircase description. It is unclear why the pilgrimage guidebook places the hand-holding here under "33. Stairs".)
