Also known as Liucheng and Luchen, the site lies in present-day Lukqun Town, Shanshan County, Turpan City. In 640 (Zhenguan 14 of Tang), after Gaochang was destroyed, Liuzhong County was established and placed under Xizhou. In 792 (Zhenyuan 8 of Tang / Jianzhong 13 of the Western Region), the area came under Tibetan control. Only a 50-odd-meter section of the southwest corner of the ancient city wall remains.
